'018 | FTW_FOLDABLE
-
Lead Designer; Project Duration: 1 month
-
The project was assigned in the course “ID-Tech I” at Pratt Institute, and presented as a pure hand-made prototype. Primary goal is being able to come up with a working prototype that could lower 50% or more volume of its own.
-
The backbone of FTW_ FOLDABLE combines two major explorations, “Origami Foldable Upper” and “See-thru Midsole Structure.”

[initializing]
Besides the sketches, I started to learn the paper pleating technique from the most beginning part. Later on, based on my experiments related to the midsole structure and the usability of the shoes, I rethink the composition of my design features.
-
In addition, the pleated volume lead me toward in searching the proper strap components to uplift the functionality and usability of the pleating structure.
[soles iteration]
Meanwhile, I continued the development upon the midsole structure, altering the composition of the laser cut pieces laying on the X,Y axises.
[upper construction]
Applying Origami structure upon the fabric, which is the part activating the flattened mechanism, including the “paper to fabric transformation.”
