CRBN, the abbreviation for "Carbonate" referring to one of the most common mineral types seen in natural stones and architectural buildings.
“typeA” represents the initial item on the collection list; the design sets the tone for the unfolding series in terms of visual language and ethos.
The project aims to actualize a 3D volumetric language by framing the given contextual transformation. One visible transformation process in the chemistry world, phase transition, illustrates how the basic states of matter convert between solid, liquid and gas. Other examples aligned to the idea of transformation include landform and rock formations; within any given time frame, the array of weathering and eroding conditions sculpt diverse textures and gestures in different scales. What if an uncharted transformation driver is set between the artificial and the natural forces?

Brutalist architecture, a utilitarian, minimalist construction style influenced by socialist principles, provides the entry point defining the framework driver. Exposed structural elements, unpainted building materials and angular geometric contour are the common features among the Brutalist buildings; the mass adoption of concrete and brick as fabrication material also rendered the sites into monochrome color palette.
Despite the highly modularized and organized spaces serving its designed purpose, another contrasting force resides in the juxtaposition of sand, soil and rocks playing as support layers beneath and holding up the entire structure. As dichotomy as it may look between raw stones and functional buildings, it is possible to distill the common factor on the atomic level; “carbonate” in this case, softening the boundaries of man-made and the natural world, defining an unmapped zone within the gradient.
