“SYMT” stands for the geometry term “symmetry.”
“SYMT” is a sustainability thinking developed as backbone for the project. “FTW_SYMT_shadow” project aims to create contrast with original edition by applying generative pattern design upon the fabric.
While FTW_SYMT as the original thinking process utilized plain linen to construct the shoe upper, “FTW_SYMT_shadow” focus on exploring the vibrant yet abstract pattern for the upper surface. The collective frames generated from the p5.js environment, a creative coding medium, are placed in array and thus become one large single piece of image printed on the fabric.

“FTW_SYMT_shadow” captures the form of yellow NYC traffic light as the source for pattern ideation, in response to the original context of designing footwear for daily commuters.
